Clay Center
The tranquil Republican River runs just to the south of the center of Clay Center, and echoes life in this pleasant small town in north-central Kansas, just 35 miles from Tuttle Creek Lake area of Manhattan. Huntress Creek is a tributary of the Republican, and bisects this town of 4,000 that sits on Highway 24. Clay Center is also acknowledged as the geographic midpoint between New York City and Los Angeles, both 1,224 miles east and west, respectively.
Dexter Park features Safari Run for children, and also contains a band shelter. The Aquatic Center features two diving boards, a pair of slides and meandering lazy river feature.
- Piotique Festival: Annually each September, Clay Center enthusiasts gather to celebrate fall’s arrival with food, crafts, activities (car show, parade) and entertainment. Piotique combines Pioneer with Antique; activities include Friday Cruise Night, 10K/3.22K races and antique tractor show. Held annually, last Saturday each September.
