2019 Friends of the Beach Museum of Art Gift Print Artist introduces Jeremiah Ariaz. Black Trail Riding Clubs have their roots in Creole culture formed in Southwest Louisiana in the eighteenth century. Trail rides are an opportunity for generations from rural parts of the state to gather and celebrate. These trail riders form a distinctive yet little known Louisiana subculture.Ariaz is a Great Bend product and associate professor of art at Louisiana State University who has captured these equestrian clubs in a series of photographs selected for this exhibition. One image chosen as 2019 Friends of Beach Museum of Art Gift Print.

Dick Beeman, Clive Fullagar and Luke Townsend are all local artists living in Manhattan. None of them have formal training in art.

Visitors should check in at the Blue Sage Gallery at 1484 Wildcat Creek Rd. for hiker log, trail maps and other info. Join them around the Blue Sage Barn fire pit for a bonfire at 7pm!

Susan Rose is an established Kansas landscape painter and plein air enthusiast. Join Susan on Sunday, September 8 as part of Open Trail Days at Prairiewood for a plein air meetup from 1-5pm.
This is not a class or workshop, but a meetup group. Participants should bring their own supplies and be largely self-guided. For this free event, Susan will be a supportive guide, but not a one-on-one instructor!
Participants should park by Prairiewood's RetreatHouse, on top of the hill at 1484 Wildcat Creek Rd. and be ready to walk a reasonable distance. Also be prepared for whatever weather conditions might present themselves and dress accordingly. We will post updates on the event page if weather becomes an issue.

The band’s groundbreaking “Will The Circle Be Unbroken” 1972 album was inducted into the U.S. Library of Congress and Grammy Hall of Fame. Nitty Gritty’s recording of “Mr. Bojangles” was also inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2010.

In the wild, animals have to work to find food and shelter. Play is another natural and important activity. At the Zoo, life can become a bit more predictable. Sunset Zoo utilizes enrichment daily to stimulate these natural behaviors, creating an environment that challenges the animals in work and play.

Sunday September 8, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at the Riley County Family and Child Resource Center, 2101 Claflin Road (West End Room, access from back parking lot) Dr. Juti Winchester will speak on "Men on a Mission: The Arizona Territorial Governor's Party on the Santa Fe Trail in 1863." This program, sponsored by the Kansas Corral of the Westerners, is free and open to the public.
In February 1863 President Abraham Lincoln signed into law a bill providing for the Territory of Arizona and appointed John N. Goodwin Governor. Godwin and his party of other appointed officials traveled to the new Arizona Territory down the Santa Fe Trail from Leavenworth, Kansas by wagon train in December 1863.
Dr. Juti Winchester is an Assistant Professor at Fort Hays State University. She received her Ph.D. from Northern Arizona University. She has written extensively on the American West and is a Past President of Westerners International.
