  1. Celebrating 100 Years of History and Heritage: Riley County Historical Museum

    Centennial celebration exhibit showcases 100-plus artifacts and photographs significant to the history of the Riley County community. Notable objects include a section of original seating from Wareham Opera House, penny-farthing bicycle owned by Guy Varney, hand-carved sunflower clock made from local wood for the World’s Columbian Exposition in Chicago, 1893.

    Many objects on view have been rarely exhibited. Centennial exhibition accompanied by series of programs (watch for announcements and check calendar).

    Friends of the Beach gift print artist Jason Scuilla was raised in Sarasota, Fla., and his drawings and prints have been exhibited in solo and group exhibitions throughout the U.S. Scuilla serves as associate professor of art at Kansas State University.

  1. K-State Summer Music Camp

    June 11, 2017 - June 15, 2017 @ McCain Auditorium

    Five-day camp (grades 5-12) exposes students to variety of ensemble and rehearsal settings: concert band, small ensembles and jazz ensembles. Resident campers stay in campus residence hall. Daily camp schedule includes full group rehearsals, sectional (small group) rehearsal with specialist instruction and supervised recreation time (K-State Union or City Water Park). Final ensemble performance culminates camp schedule.

    Guest conductors include Dr. Jay Gilbert, Director of Bands at Doane College (Crete, Neb.) and Dr. Larry Blocher, Troy University (Troy, Ala.). K-State Music Camp staff comprised of the finest musicians and teachers from the area chosen for abilities to inspire and teach talented young musicians. College music students complete the staff. Summer music camp directed by Dr. Frank Tracz, K-State director of bands.

    Campers learn basic art skills: color mixing, paint with artist paint brushes and drawing with pencil, marker and more. Summer Art Camp designed for campers of all skill levels. Teachers are skilled to adapt projects and work with variety of skill levels. Campers have presentation for parents at end of Friday class.

    Teacher-led, themed weekly projects use products that include paints, pottery, collage and much more. Straight Upp offers multiple camps throughout summer.
